I even so haven't read many light novels, but I've really been enjoying the Goblin Slayer books. I gave the last few volumes 5 star-ratings because the writing has actually improved from the earlier ones. I'chiliad not sure if that'southward comeback on the part of the writer, Kumo Kagyu, or if the translators are improving. The descriptions are more brilliant, and the dialogue is more well-baked.To me, a 5-star light novel tin can't even compare with a 5-star novel, simply that'southward why it wouldn't be fair to even attempt. I recall this book is well-nigh as good as I tin expect from the genre. There are times when I tin't aid feeling guilty that I'm reading books targeted at a much younger demographic (and lower reading level). That existence said, these Goblin Slayer LN's are even so a lot of fun. I always know I can await some entertaining action sequences, and at that place'due south actually subtle graphic symbol evolution as the series progresses.
This volume showcases the development of the two main characters, Goblin Slayer and Priestess. They both reflect on their by as they endeavour to motility forward into the futurity, in a world where the cruel gods of fate leave everything up to a roll of the dice. This theme is well-represented in the series, and though I can't envision the main party losing whatsoever of its members, such a affair is certainly feasible in this world, which creates constant tension in the story.
One of my favorite things about this series is the mix of highly intense activeness with quiet moments between the main characters. They all take pretty unique personalities (in spite of their ho-hum, archetypal names) and their interactions are always amusing. In this volume, one of these moments occurs when Goblin Slayer gets invited for a night of drinking with the other loftier-ranked adventurers, Spearman and Heavy-Knight. Basically, it'due south hilarious when Goblin Slayer does anything besides slaying goblins (he never takes off his armor or weapons, even in a tavern).
I actually started reading this series just before the anime aired, and information technology got a lot of attention for its 'edginess'. Some people retrieve it'south way too fell, some people remember that it's soft compared to other series. Between these LN'due south and the anime, my opinion is that it is a fleck edgy, but not tastelessly so. Information technology does a practiced job portraying a cluttered world that's really non then different than our own.

Frankly, I find
Some other volume of Goblin Slayer and nevertheless another goblin crisis! As well as some personal crunch for both Goblin Slayer and Priestess; involving the shared past they had during Priestess' first goblin slaying quest. Not to mention Goblin Slayer's dilemma at seeing the old site of his onetime abode being repurposed into the new grooming grounds for the adventurers, as well every bit Priestess' concerns well-nigh needing to prove her own abilities to allow herself to be promoted to the next rank.Frankly, I find information technology neat that the novel had Noble Fencer, who appeared in the previous volume ended upwards being the person who immune the button to have the training grounds made to help newbie adventurers learn their ropes before embarking on their own adventures. It was a dainty follow-up to the catastrophe of the Goblin's Crown determination where Noble Fencer showtime to consider what path to have for herself after the harrowing experience that she had endured.
That said, I love how nosotros get to run into more interaction between the Goblin Slayer'southward party as well as the other adventurers around them. 5 volumes in, we should have expected that the group's actually becoming even closer as Goblin Slayer himself would commencement to have that his party members (and some other adventurers in Frontier Town) had grown to become his friends (and non just Priestess' friends). And information technology was dainty to read almost how all of the veteran members of his party endeavour their best to help Priestess out equally the daughter grew to become a precious member of their party.
I really love the writing on how everyone'due south relationship become even closer and how Priestess also started to grow from all of the experiences that she had gained while going on adventures with Goblin Slayer and the residuum of her friends.

Priestess also takes a big step forrard for herself this volume and hopefully we volition run across the fruits of this in the later volumes.
The simply downside of this volume is the focus on our main pairing, resulting in lesser appearances of the rest of their colorful party, just they are definitely still around to relieve the day equally needed.
While I mentioned this is an intermission sort of volume, there's no lack of goblin action, then no worries on that end.

What was peachy about this volume was to see the 2 main characters abound: Goblin Slayer is really irresolute slowly and Priestess is toughening upward.
In that location are 2 new characters introduced that would work dandy as a duo for a spin off of this series. I would definitely desire to hear their story.

Manifestly, at that place is still progress to
Volume 6 of the Golbin Slayer series continues to encounter Goblin Slayer and his political party kill all of the goblins. Merely now, six calorie-free novels in, the writing, the translation, and the characters themselves have all matured. The writing and the translation both feel crisper and more natural than earlier lite novels, and it'due south particularly satasifying to see how the characters, especially Goblin Slayer, take adult and become more one-dimensional TRPG classes.Obviously, there is nevertheless progress to be fabricated, simply I continue to enjoy reading the series and follow this band of adventurers wherever they get.

Every bit usual there are goblins to slay (and so some). Never fear, I'm sure at that place volition exist more!
Verdict: If you lot like the GS serial this one should be right up your alley. Fifty-fifty though it started slowly for me, I still dug the book equally a whole.
I found the outset and centre to be a scrap slow, even though it showcases some change in our titular hero. Another enjoyable read. It's a nice volume where a more than than one graphic symbol is dealing with a promotion of sorts. The combat's e'er satisfying to read and tabletop reference gives me a smirk more oftentimes than I'd similar to admit.
Always a pleasure to see this setting and characters abound.
Looking forrard to the next volume.
